MAYEIN Org empowers youths with relevant skills for the future, economic empowerment, and civic engagement. Rural communities in Nigeria lack access to these resources and opportunities. The Impact Pavilion enables MAYEIN Org to meet these critical needs by expanding access to education and vocation training in these underserved areas. Beyond the classroom it provides community wide space for social, cultural, and enterprise opportunities

Introduction
Public education provisions falls short in delivering adequate literacy and resources to children and youth across the nation. Those in rural and underserved communities are particularly vulnerable. MAYEIN’s mission is to support youths to build 21st century competencies, thrive and participate in the economic and civic life of their communities and the Nation. Our Vision is for youth competence and inclusion to form a major driver of national development and economic growth.

For 10 years MAYEIN has been implementing a compendium of solid literacy, e-Literacy and Positive Youth Development (PYD) programs reaching over 5000 educationally disadvantaged children and youth across poor communities and public school settings in Nigeria’s South-West region. They are still not able to serve the most vulnerable in rural underserved communities who are not able to access the city center location due to lack of infrastructure, family commitments, and economic requirements.

The interactive learning and outreach Impact Pavilion is an extension of the central site reducing inequalities in education and opportunity. An inclusive hub it offers the community at large passive and active educational, cultural, and enterprise opportunities. It is our goal that the Impact Pavilion will be the first SEED certified project in Nigeria. Not only will this serve as a source of pride for MAYEIN and community users it will position both MAYEIN and the pavilion users as innovative community leaders.

Impact
The design-build process provides an impactful opportunity for skills acquisition and civic engagement. Users, stakeholders, and community members are engaged in the design and construction phases both virtually and in person. Primary users receive the opportunity to experience the design and construction trades, develop critical thinking, and leadership skills. The community at large will feel empowered through a sense of ownership and identity as agents of decision making, leaders, and builders.

The Impact Pavilion provides the opportunity and space for MAYEIN to scale their impact and fulfill their mission by providing a self contained compact prototype that's easily reproducible and transferable to different communities. It will act as a youth and community hub with dynamic access to learning, enterprise, and cultural opportunities within its immediate neighborhood and wider MAYEIN and national communities.

The structure will be compact and simple to construct. Though there is a high level of detail to meet a variety of functions in the initial design it is also flexible enough to expand and evolve as the community takes ownership and expresses unique assets, wants, and needs. Innovative use of materials may be obtained locally and make use of discarded material reducing cost and environmental stress. The prototype may be replicated within other marginalized communities.

With the opportunity to be the first SEED certified project in Nigeria the Impact Pavilion will demonstrate innovative leadership through social, economic, and environmental design.

Where are we now
We have completed initial interviews with the Executive Director of MAYEIN Org, contextualized the project within organization and community needs as well as MAYEIN’s mission, and selected a site. We have developed a concept and are now ready to engage users to inform and complete design development.

We have identified as site in the Alaka community and are aiming for a budget to not exceed 15K Euro. Once the design is finalized we will produce detailed drawings, assess our building material assets and needs and obtain an estimate by a potential contractor and secure additional partners and initiate an additional fundraising campaign.
An indication of our team’s capacity:
75% expertise already found
25% builders already found
Finance: € 11,000
This project focuses on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)  of eliminating inequality and delivering quality education in order to create sustainable communities. With additional funding, we can take one step closer to creating a sustainable future for all, especially for the underserved communities.

Implementing this project will provide access to technology and connect youth to opportunities they currently do not have access to. Youth and communities will be empowered to make decisions, take action, and participate in the global economy in turn providing security and dignity.

We seek in kind donations outside the scope of building materials, primarily in the form of technoolgy which ensure's the pavilion's self-sufficiency and capacity to serve the communty through delivery of MAYEIN's programming including: solar energy generator, wifi hotspot, laptops and/or tablets.
Hands
We anticipate rallying our existing network of designers and fabricators to carry out detailed design and structural fabrication. Beyond that we aim to call MAYEIN's primary users, volunteers, and community members to lend not only their input towards making design decitions, but also to lend their experience and expertise with local material and building traditions. Together a cross cultural and experiential exchange will establish the Impact Pavilion as both innovative and contextually responsive to the Alaka communities wants and needs as well as MAYEIN's mission.  We look forward to bring this vibrant, dynamic, and impactful project to life!
