From Listening to Building: The Do It Together Design Story
GC2025 Storyteller Series

Nine creative, committed voices responded to our call to document and tell the stories of the GC2025 projects. Their words, images, and voices reveal struggle, resilience, and the slow, patient labour of belonging, doing-it-together.

This feature brings together two episodes of Do It Together Design. The first tells the story of DACI - All Afrika Village, a community-led, shovel-ready project that reclaims indigenous design and art to build rural resilience. The second continues the conversation, as architects and designers reflect on how listening to local voices leads to more connected, human architecture.

With gratitude to Laura Espinosa Ayala, Lorato Nonofo, and Nayra Clara Mamani, storytellers of the GC2025 cohort, for weaving this narrative.

In Episode 1 of Do It Together Design, we visit Dzimbanhete - Creative Village, DACI-All Afrika Village on the outskirts of Harare, Zimbabwe - a hub where indigenous art and design strengthen rural resilience. Lead Architect, Kristina Ziadeh and Chikonzero Chazunguza, Founder and Creative Director of DACI, reflect on designing from within, where art, architecture, and community intertwine. Their dialogue reveals Dzimbanhete as a living classroom - a space of collaboration, culture, and belonging.

In Episode 2 of Do It Together Design, architects and designers reflect on what it means to truly learn from local communities and global peers. Through listening, empathy, and hands-on collaboration, they reveal how co-creation is transforming architecture from a product into a shared process of belonging.
