I believe that "good design can save the world," which over time in many places as become just a catch-phrase; through my work experience, I have seen it work though. Architecture can empower a communities and improve lives of the people it serves. In the U.S. and in Rwanda, I have engaged in design, research, and construction that has changed people's lives for the better with thoughtful, consistent design. As an educator, design of all disciplines should be taught the way of the profession with the focus on design principles, a strong foundation of basic skills, and the process of problem solving through exploring and understanding space and the impact of that space. As I remind students, "with great power, comes great responsibility" as they have the power to change the future.
